I had a down-and-dirty assignment from LIFE one Saturday in '68 to take a photo in Chicago, fly to Indianapolis, shoot there and get the film back to O'Hare in time to ship it to New York. Luckily for me Paul Newman was campaigning for Eugene McCarthy, and Paul gave me my first LIFE cover.
