Miss Doyle
When Fortune Magazine had the idea for me to wander the streets of the Loop in Chicago looking up, to find those small businesses on the second floor, where the rent is more affordable, I knew this was one of those rare gifts an editor sometimes sends your way. Thank you Libby.

The sign in the building directory read "2--Dressmaker--GM Doyle Studio." Miss Doyle was deaf, and when I went to her door there was a note asking visitors and customers to reach inside and flick the light switch to summon her.

We got along fine. Editing the pictures on my light box I saw a piece of paper in the frame that didn't seem to belong. Under my magnifier I read what I had written, "Now... I need you smile more for the next few shots."
